As every millennial knows, thrifting is the way to go when you want to find cool clothing at low prices, so I thought I'd hop on the bandwagon and share my top 5 thrift tips!
TIP No. 1: shop in the men's & Kids' sections
Whenever I'm thrifting, I always make sure to stop by the men's (and children's) sections. The men's section is usually home to sports jerseys, oversized t-shirts, and comfy sweatshirts (proof that you don't need to have a boyfriend to rock that "boyfriend sweatshirt" look).
The children's section is also an essential area to visit since the prices of kids' clothing are cheaper than that of adults'.
tip no. 2: LOOK AT MORE THAN JUST CLOTHES
Sometimes we forget that thrift stores sell more than just clothing. Check out what furniture, home decor, books, movies, and trinkets your local thrift store has! I once found an unopened iPhone charger for $8!
TIP NO. 3: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
While it's true that you can find good pieces at any store, if you shop at a thrift store near a wealthy area, chances are you'll find higher end clothing. Try and figure out where people living in wealthy neighborhoods donate their clothes. I once visited a thrift shop in Florida that was about 15 minutes from a gated community and found clothing items designed by Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren!
TIP NO. 4: Upcycle
Upcycling is when you take an object and turn it into a higher quality version of itself (or turn it into a new product altogether). Next time you're at a thrift store, find clothing that has the potential to be cute. It could be an old tee that you take home and crop yourself, a pair of jeans you distress and turn into shorts, or simply a dress that you hem.
TIP NO. 5: THRIFT ONLINE
When all else fails, try online shopping. There are so many apps and websites that resell clothes. My personal favorite is the app Depop, but if you guys want I can write a post dedicated to sharing all the top thrifting apps available.
Thanks for reading and keep an eye out for a new post next Saturday!
